discussion post responses

Is there a way to see in the Grades overview whether a student has submitted a discussion post response after a grade has been added? Right now to see if a student has added responses, I have to manually check each student's submission in Speed Grader, since there doesn't appear to be any notification within Grades or Speed Grader that a new post has been added. For regular assignments (not discussion posts), this doesn't seem to be an issue. If students resubmit or submit after a grade has been added, it's clear that something is new in Grades and in Speed Grader. Thank you!

Your question, @suzivans1, gives some excellent ideas for making Canvas Discussions more efficient. It's been my practice to grade as I read, which helps me manage the discrepancy you mention. When it's past the due date for replies to classmates, I subscribe to the discussion so that I get a notification each time a new message is made. 

I hope that the checkpoints feature that will be added to the Discussions Redesign will help with this situation as well: Discussions Redesign Coming to Canvas LMS on July 20, 2024!

Thanks for your reply @ProfessorBeyrer. I hope they put this in the hopper--it would make things a lot more efficient, especially in asynchronous classes with a lot of discussion boards. I see how subscribing could help--it would just mean a lot of extra emails. But I may need to do that so I don't miss anything that comes in late, at least until there is a better, more efficient fix. The email notifications don't seem to include who made the discussion posts, so you have to click through to each one individually, which again becomes lots of extra clicking to track down late or revised posts. There has to be a better way! 🙂
