I am getting a lot of assignment created notifications as teachers tend to create all their assignments for the week on Sundays. I cannot find a setting to disable these notifications.
According to this previous post (https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Question-Forum/Assignment-Creation-Notification-Setting/m-...), this setting is supposed to fall under Notification Settings > Course Activities > Course Content. I have looked there, and none of the 3 bullet points mention assignment creation. Perhaps "assignment creation" is meant to be a part of "assignment content?"
Either way, this notification was already off, so I shouldn't be receiving notifications for these events.
The attached screenshot is from my account settings. Since I'm getting this notification for many courses, I assume this is the proper scope to check. However, I did also look at the notification settings for at least 2 of the courses that recently sent me assignment creation notifications. Both of them look the same with "course content" notifications being disabled.

Can you help? Am I looking in the right notification setting or is there a different setting somewhere else?
Thanks

Assignment creations are probably triggering your Due date (Assignment due date change) notification.
Assignment creations are probably triggering your Due date (Assignment due date change) notification.
I will try changing the due date notification setting to see if that makes a difference. (I will probably have to wait until next Sunday when teachers create a lot more assignments to see if it worked.).
Due date is a good idea, but I must say I'm a bit skeptical because the notifications I'm complaining about don't actually say "due date changed." I have seen those types of notifications before, and these are different. Here's an example email that shows both types of notifications. A teacher appears to have created an assignment without a due date and then shortly thereafter set a due date, thus generating 2 notifications--one for assignment creation and one for due date change.

I would expect the "due date" toggle to only impact the second notification in this screenshot, not the first. And, it's the first one that I'm trying to disable.
I think there's a good chance it will work.
For one, your "Due Date" notification is set with the weekly summary option and the email screenshot you have shared is for a summary, not an immediate notification.
Do report back next Sunday.
I temporarily changed the due date notification to immediate. And I didn't have to wait until next week. Today, some teachers created new assignments, and I received a handful of "assignment creation" notifications at various times throughout the day (presumably immediately as they were created). So, this seems to be pretty strong evidence that the due date notification setting is what I needed.
I still think it's a bit strange that "assignment creation" is lumped under the "due date" notification setting, but at least now I know. Maybe Canvas should add a subbullet underneath that mentions that "assignment creation" is also covered by this notification? Something similar to how there are 3 subbullets under the "course content" notification setting. This certainly wasn't obvious (or expected) from my perspective.
That's a fair point. I recommend submitting it as an idea for the Canvas development team.
Hi @smarlowe It looks like based on our Canvas Notification Resource document, due date creation for assignments is also triggered under the due date notification as @VPundir shared. Let us know if disabling this notification resolved your issue.
While that's probably true, I'm not asking about "due date creation." My question is focused on "assignment creation."
Hi there @smarlowe ,
You can disable those notifications by going into your user account notification settings and disabling it there. I'll provide a screenshot below for reference, as well as a link that will provide you with some additional information, if needed!
How do I manage my Canvas notification settings?
As shown in the screenshot I shared, my "Course Content" notifications were already disabled. So, there's nothing to change in the red highlighted region.
The steps I provided are the way to disable course notifications for content uploads. Are you sure you're disabling this under the course notifications and not your user account notifications specifically? That's another possible solution for you, in addition to what @VPundir shared. I too recommend disabling due date notifications.
