I have multiple mails appearing under the same user when i search for them in my People page. What could this be?
Could it be that someone created multiple mails and accepted the invitations but due to cookies the system associates all those emails to the same user?

It is possible for a user to have multiple email addresses, and they can even choose different notification settings for each. There are a couple of Canvas Guides for students that explain this:
Though these two are aimed at students, all users have the same ability to have multiple email addresses.
