"due dates" hidden under "assign to"

Hiding date settings under the assign-to feature, not only adds hundreds of extra clicks to every teacher's workload, this new feature hides things teachers use for every single assignment assignment: available dates, due dates, and lock dates. It is bad UI.

Most likely, you're referring to updates that were pushed out to Canvas this past Saturday.  You can see all those updates in this Release Notes document:

I noticed this feature change as I began prepping for fall.  The WORST part is that once you figure out that this is how you set up the due date (which was super easy before) you have to hit apply - but THAT only situates the due date.  If you think you are done creating the assignment, you are NOT.  This has happened to be TWICE (so learner!)   I lost the entire assignment I had created (including the due date).  I wonder what faculty tested this feature and thought this was 'better' than what we had.

Hi there.  I wanted to let you know that Instructure plans to revert things back to how they used to be for the "Assign to" and "Due Date" fields on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.  You can read more about this at: Canvas Deploy Notes (2024-08-28) - Instructure Community - 612024 (canvaslms.com).  I hope this will be helpful to you.
