Hi There,
The update on the temporary enrollments is amazing, however, it keeps linking here: https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Ideas/Enrollments-Add-a-Substitute-Portal-Feature/idi-p/51...
Which is different. A substitute portal is a way for substitutes to Log In to Canvas LMS. This feature is different, albeit, I guess related.
Though on the page, https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Ideas/Enrollments-Add-a-Substitute-Portal-Feature/idi-p/51... it states that this feature is now in beta and listed in this Release, but it is not.
Is there any clarification on when/if a substitute portal is in process?
Hello, I have been testing the Temporary Enrollments feature in our Beta environment, but the courses won't appear for me to select, see screenshot below. I have done this with various users who have active courses this term, and no courses appear. I can confirm that I've enabled the feature option and the account role permission. What could be causing the courses to not appear?
I am very much looking forward to the temporary enrollment feature!
But for us, it will be admins who do the pairing, the temporary enrollment. Testing in Beta, I can't figure out a workflow for that to happen in the GUI. If I click on the Calendar icon in People as directed, there is no +Recipient visible. I have updated the admin privilege to allow Users-Temporary enrollments. I also allowed Teachers to Add TAs and Teachers. Am I missing something? Can an admin add a recipient only if there is already a recipient for the teacher? Maybe this is in the works for a change.
ADDENDUM:
OK - I found a way to make it work. It wouldn't find a recipient using email, but it did find her using SIS ID. A bug?
But now, like @paulamiranda, I only see one course to choose and it is a course where the provider is a student, not where she is a teacher. She is a teacher in an open course, and I would think that would appear.
On further testing with different instructors, I found it was only displaying courses in previous semesters, not the current semester, concluded courses. Spring 2017 for example. If I chose one, it said the recipient would be added to the provider's course, but there was also an error message and no enrolling was done An error occurred, please try again. Perhaps because the courses are closed.
Await some updates!
How do you unlock as assignment that I want to assign?
I have used the temporary enrolment feature to successfully assign casual staff to courses as TAs. When setting up the temporary enrolment, I select 'inactive' as the ending enrolment state. I have begun to notice that when I enter courses with previous temporary enrolments, that these temporary enrolments are still listed under people, however they are not labelled as 'inactive'. Upon checking with one of the temporarily enrolled staff, we have confirmed that they no longer have access to the course, however from the instructor POV viewing the 'people' list, they appear to be active. Can these temporary enrolments please be marked inactive so it is clear to the instructor?
I agree @patricia_lemos3. The user should display inactive if the enrollment period has ended. If enrollment is to start at some future date, it should also appear inactive in the course. This should probably be the case whether or not the ending enrollment state is inactive or deleted. Before enrollment starts, inactive After it ends, inactive (or just deleted).
