Instructure is changing the way that it works with YouTube. In order to keep video learning distraction free and privacy first, we’ve partnered with YouTube to bring their Player for Education directly into Canvas Studio starting September 1, 2025.
This integration allows YouTube videos in Canvas Studio to stream:
- without ads, recommendations, or links back to YouTube.
- with viewers remaining anonymous to YouTube through a “signed-out” viewing state
- with captioning from YouTube to maintain accessibility compliance.
This means educators can now use Canvas Studio to safely and confidently incorporate YouTube video content in their instruction without exposing students to commercial distractions, or compromising institutional data privacy standards. Please note that this experience is exclusive to Canvas Studio. Any existing or new YouTube videos added to Canvas may start displaying ads on September 22, 2025.
To take full advantage of the Player for Education, YouTube videos must be added to Canvas Studio. To make it easier to migrate YouTube videos from Canvas to Canvas Studio, we’ve created a step-by-step guide and are maintaining FAQs. Additionally, we’re developing a new tool to help streamline the migration of YouTube videos to Canvas Studio. This automated solution will work at the course level and save educators time. We’ll be launching an early adopter program for this migration tool August 15, 2025—if you're interested in testing this feature before it’s available on September 1, 2025, please fill out this form.
