how do i turn off comments for my studio canvas video

Hi there, @BrianaOropeza ...

If I am interpreting your question correctly, it sounds like you have embedded a Studio video into a content page of your course with the comments section enabled below the video...and now you'd like to remove that comments section.  The only way I know how to do this is by editing the page, removing the embedded video, and then re-inserting the Studio video ... making sure to toggle the "Display Media Tabs" option off (this is what displays the comments below the video).

All that being said...I seem to recall an older conversation where someone had a similar question, and I *thought* (though I could be wrong) that @James had a solution where there was a slight change in the HTML code you could modify with an already embedded Studio video with comments.

When you edit the HTML, there will be a query parameter called custom_arc_launch_type. It has a value of embed for a full embed or bare_embed for just the video.

The %3D in between the two is just an encoded = sign. Just add bare_ in front of the existing embed.

How can you turn off the ability for students to post comments, but keep the analytics where you can see who has watched, how long, etc.? If you turn off Display Media Tab you can't post comments, but now the teacher doesn't get the analytics. I would have liked for these to be separate options.

Hi @bcsmmarshall ...

That is actually not the case.  Even if you choose to not have the comments interface below embedded Studio videos available to you and your students, instructors can still review the "Insights" data which will let you know which parts of a video have and have not been watched.  To test this out yourself, embed a Studio video onto a page of your course, but leave the toggle switch for "Display Media Tabs" turned off.  Once you save the video, try watching parts of the video.  Then, go to your Canvas Studio library.  Select the video in question.  You may also need to select the course name from the dropdown list directly under the video once you select it from your Studio library.  Then, select the "Insights" tab, and you should be able to see some data about what you watched.  Here's an example from my own sandbox course and my Studio library that I just tested to confirm that this works:

Gotcha! I was hoping the analytics would still show on the teacher side of the Page, Assignment, etc. item. I did not realize they could go back to Studio and see it there. Not as convenient, but a work around if they don't want comments.
