Enhanced Rubrics Phase 3 is Nearly Complete! The final UX improvements and bug fixes will go live EOD 9/24.

Enhanced Rubrics just got a major upgrade, and it’s all thanks to your feedback. Whether you’re a first-time user or someone who tried it early and ran into bumps, now is the perfect time to give it another go.

Phase 3 delivers critical bug fixes, smoother workflows, and thoughtful UX improvements designed to make rubric creation and grading easier than ever.

Key Bug Fixes & Improvements

We tackled the most common frustrations to save you clicks and headaches:

Usability Fixes

  • Editable Copied Rubrics – You can now edit point values in rubrics copied across courses or assignments.

  • Preserve All Settings on Copy/Duplicate – Outcome alignment, “use for scoring,” and hidden-points settings all carry over reliably.

  • No More Point Reversion – Custom point values won’t reset when switching between criteria.

  • Smarter Editing Warnings – The “changes will duplicate rubric” pop-up appears only after you edit and save criteria (this used to pop up upon clicking the edit button, before editing).

  • Automatic Rating Range Adjustments – Change the top rating and all ranges scale automatically.

  • Safer Deletions – Get a clear confirmation when removing a rubric, with the choice to delete entirely or just unlink.

  • Truly Hidden Points – When you hide points from students, both the final score and individual criteria points stay hidden.

  • Persistent Layouts (within a session) – Your preferred rubric layout remains in place while you work.

UX Enhancements

  • Visible Decimal Values – Entry boxes now display decimal points cleanly.

  • Streamlined SpeedGrader Layout – Less vertical scrolling, more efficient grading.

  • Total Points at a Glance – See rubric totals at the bottom of SpeedGrader.

  • Show Point Values in Horizontal/Vertical View – Display real point values per criterion instead of 0,1,2,3,4.

  • Warnings for Missing Criteria – Get an alert if you skip a criterion before submitting in SpeedGrader.

  • Clickable Outcome Pills – Click to reveal full outcome details without leaving the page.

Coming Soon

We’re not stopping here. Two exciting updates are already on the horizon:

  • Scheduled Feedback Release (Nov 15, 2025) – Control when students see rubric feedback and release comments separately from scores.

  • Multiple Rubrics per Assessment (early 2026) – Attach more than one rubric to support complex grading needs.

If you stepped away after an early test run, now’s the time to come back. We’ve updated the Enhanced Rubrics experience to help you grade with confidence.

Thanks @YasiAfsharnive Do these improvements go live directly in the Pro, or will they be available in Beta first? Thanks

Have all of these been pushed out? I'm looking at Enhanced Rubrics within our instance, and two of the most requested items, Total Points at Bottom of the Rubric and True Point Values instead of 0,1,2,3,4, look to still not have been implemented. Horizontal and Vertical view still show the 0,1,2 even if the point values don't match that, and while there's a complete/incomplete pill at the bottom of the rubric, the point value awarded still doesn't show at the bottom.

@lsorroche These changes are available in production.

@ATaylorTech Thank you for calling that out. When creating and editing the rubric, there is a dropdown menu labeled 'ratings display'. You must select points for points to show up instead of the criteria number. Screenshot 2025-10-07 at 10.02.58 AM.png

@YasiAfsharnive Thank you, that helps! Is there another toggle for the Points at Bottom of Rubric? That's another big one our faculty have been asking for that was slated to appear on 9/24.

Will the import tool come back? It's so much easier to create them in Excel and then import them into Canvas.

When is the enhanced version coming online? I see a date of 9/25 above but it's been a month and it's definitely not available at my institution.
