If you create a rubric of the type 'unscored', points are not shown while building the criteria. However, when the rubric is created points are shown in various locations:
Is this an already known issue that will be fixed?
Hi @ellen_peters, I see what you mean. I did some testing on my end. When I created an unscored rubric and a unscored rubric, they do look different, unscored rubrics don't allow you to pick points possible for each rating, but it still has the display number to show the student what they earned for that rating.
I also attached the unscored rubric to a test assignment and used my test student. In SpeedGrader when I look at the rubric, I don't see points in the traditional view; there are "pts" for the horizontal & vertical view but again I think it's supposed to show the student what they earned in each category.
But I can see how it may be confusing, it says "points" rather than "rating" on an unscored rubric. I believe there was a setting you could turn on called "use rubric for assignment grading" so if that isn't checked, it won't apply the rubric to the score as well.
Hi @kikpe,
Thanks for your reply. Indeed the points are not shown to the student, but it is confusing for teachers that points are not shown when creating the rubric (as expected for an unscored rubric), but are visibible in other views. In my opinion, that is a bug. @YasiAfsharnive , can you please comment on this?
Hi @ellen_peters. Great catch!! Thanks for sharing. We'll fix this asap.
I was curious if this already had been fixed and tested it yesterday on our beta environment. I saw that 3 of the 4 issues no longer occur. The only remaining issue is the first one (the total points column shows a value). We have not enabled Enhanced rubrics yet on our production environment, so I don't know if this fix is already applied to production.
Hi @ellen_peters. Yep, our team was able to fix the issues we could reproduce. We were not able to reproduce the first issue in production so it should be fixed there. Let me know if you run into any more issues. Thanks for reporting this!
Hi @YasiAfsharnive , I still see a number value in the total points column for an unscored rubric, both on production and on beta (see image). While the Find rubric tray on the assignment page correctly shows the text 'unscored'.
I found another issue with an unscored rubric: when you duplicate it, copy it to another course or import it in another course, the copied rubric is 'scored' instead of unscored.
And another issue not related to an unscored rubric but to duplicating a rubric: when you duplicate a rubric of the type 'written feedback', the copied rubric is of the type 'scale'. When copying to another course or importing in another course, the type setting 'written feedback' is retained.
@ellen_peters Thank you for pointing these issues out. The image clarifies issue #1, thanks! I've raised all 3 bugs with our engineering team and we will get on them asap!
