Hi @ellen_peters, I see what you mean. I did some testing on my end. When I created an unscored rubric and a unscored rubric, they do look different, unscored rubrics don't allow you to pick points possible for each rating, but it still has the display number to show the student what they earned for that rating. 
I also attached the unscored rubric to a test assignment and used my test student. In SpeedGrader when I look at the rubric, I don't see points in the traditional view; there are "pts" for the horizontal & vertical view but again I think it's supposed to show the student what they earned in each category.

But I can see how it may be confusing, it says "points" rather than "rating" on an unscored rubric. I believe there was a setting you could turn on called "use rubric for assignment grading" so if that isn't checked, it won't apply the rubric to the score as well.
