With the most recent update to Enhanced Rubrics, we can now check the "use rubric for assignment grading" option at the rubric level instead of the assignment level. This is amazing!!!
When testing out the feature though, I noticed there's a slight glitch.
Let's say I make an assignment and I initially set the point value to 40 points. Afterwards, I add a rubric with the "use rubric for assignment grading" enabled. However, the rubric is worth 50 points.
With "old" rubrics, we'd get a pop-up message saying the point values do not match, and we can choose to ignore or change the assignment value to match the rubric value. This isn't the case with Enhanced Rubrics.
After adding the 50 point rubric, it appears the rubric successfully attaches to the assignment, but there is no pop-up message. The assignment still reflects the original 40 points. To get the assignment to reflect the 50 points from the rubric, I need to refresh the browser. This is going to confuse faculty and send them in a panic.
I would love to see the same type of "old" functionality, where Enhanced Rubrics tells us we are adding a rubric that doesn't match the point value of the assignment, and gives us the option to ignore or automatically change the assignment point value to match the rubric point value.
Agreed! This is a big deal. There needs to be a warning when points don't match. On a similar note, I always wondered why the "use rubric for assignment grading" was off by default. Shouldn't it be on?
Yes! I believe the most common workflow for rubrics is to use it for assignment grading. Having rubrics set to automatically "use rubric for assignment grading" is much more intuitive than having it off!
Yes x 100%, thank you for highlighting this as a change @RobbieParm this is a big change, we often typo points or don't notice they match and that warning screen always helps catch issues. It's very few instructors that I know of that would create a rubric with a different point value than the assignment...
"use rubric for assignment grading on" I think should be on by default as well. It's the most common rubric question we get asked - why aren't the points adding up in my rubric when I grade. Thankfully as you mention the new feature to checkmark it as part of the rubric creation process does work well. This will solve the issue most of the time.
