Hi all, the students who attended our course last year are locked out. Please see screenshot for current course settings. I have searched and tried to read up on the documentation, but with no success. It would be preferrable to let the the students still have access to the course content. No Course Section dates has been specified (left blanc, see second screenshot). How do I give them access? It does not matter if we have access to change grades or not, that has been over and done with - we just need them to still have access to view content. Please assist?
Hi @ShortTraining ,
Thank you for posting on the Instructure Community!
When you mention "locked out", do you mean the students can no longer access the course from their dashboard? If so, they are still able to click the Courses button on their global navigation side-bar, click 'All Courses' and then they can see the list of courses that they were enrolled in before the course ended. These courses would appear under the 'Past Enrollments' header.
Taking a look at your settings, you don't have anything enabled that should prohibit them from accessing the course. However if for some reason they still can't, I'd recommend removing the course start and end dates and then just concluding the course, as long as you don't need access to change grades or anything. You can view more information regarding accessing concluded courses and concluding your courses via the links below:
How to conclude course (put into read-only state)
I hope this helps, reach out with any additional questions or concerns! We're happy to help.
Best,
Noah
Thank you so much Noah!
I have attached screenshots of the 'locked out' scenario. The correct description should have been 'Access Denied'. There is no option for any form of course to view (I have a dummy student account which I used to test access etc. throughout the whole course).
I have read the Conclude Course article before, but as the main admin (whatever you call the coordinator/main account holder), I do not have the setting to Conclude in the menu, otherwise, this would have been the perfect solution.
I have also removed the start and end dates for the course, but no change on the student side.
Feels like I am missing something, just not sure what.
Thanks for your help.
@ShortTraining Happy to help, no problem!
Given that you use Free for Teacher, you don't actually have an account admin role. An Account Admin role is an individual with a role that can manages the entire Canvas Instance. This is a feature granted to paid canvas account customers.
That being said, I still don't see anything that should prohibit your students from accessing the course. Did you take those pictures before or after you removed the course end date? Did you deactivate any students from the course upon it ending?
Hope to hear from you soon,
Noah
