The “Back to School” season often brings a wave of excitement and new beginnings, but it can also carry a heavy load of stress for both educators and learners. This year, with the added layer of an election season in the United States, the mental load may feel especially heavy. Across the country, our partner institutions are stepping up to support their communities through this complex time, ensuring that resources and safe spaces are available to all who may need them.
Here are a few examples of the thoughtful efforts from our partner schools. We’d also love to hear about any additional resources, initiatives, or strategies that you’ve found helpful in, or created for, supporting mental well-being through the pressures of this season and beyond.
If you have other resources or ideas that your institution has implemented, please share them with us. Every action—big or small—contributes to creating a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported during challenging times.
As an employee at University of Michigan (Dearborn campus), I can attest to how important mental wellness overall is for all three of our campuses. In addition to the resource @Renee_Carney linked to in the blog, Dearborn has some additional workshops, programs, and resources for our students as well as faculty and staff.
We have a diverse population at UM-Dearborn, and having some mental wellness programs available can really help some of our students through challenging times, whether the challenges and personal, local issues, national issues, or perhaps issues in their homeland.
I feel the more we can do to help our students, faculty, and staff, the better the overall campus environment will be!

Thank you for sharing, @chriscas!
At the University of Central Florida (UCF), the mental health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is very important. To assist with knowledge and access to the tools available from our UCF Cares Office (part of Student Success and Well-Being), we've placed a "Well-being" button in the left frame navigation of our Canvas instance.
This button opens a tray that provides the links to the resources divided into three sub-headings: For Everyone, For Students, and For Employees. The tray also provides a QR code for our users to grab the resources to keep with them.
This is amazing @cms_hickss. Thank you for sharing. What a great idea to meet people where they are.
