Blueprint Process Does Not Migrate Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes or Question Banks to Item Banks

Hello, Canvas Community,

Our college has recently begun testing migration strategies for transitioning from Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes. We've discovered that the Blueprint process does not handle the migration of Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes or Question Banks to Item Banks. 

I'm seeking recommendations on the most efficient migration strategy and have some questions:

• Is there a bulk migration tool or an API solution available?
• Are there best practices from institutions that have already completed large-scale migrations that you could share?
• Does Canvas have plans to enhance Blueprint functionality to include quiz migration when synching blueprints with associated courses in the future so it could automatically migrate legacy quizzes and banks to the updated versions?

We want to develop a streamlined process that minimizes the manual work of migrating legacy quizzes and banks to the updated versions while ensuring proper migration as we transition to the updated interface.

Hello @cheryltice,

At the moment there are no plans to automatically migrate classic quizzes when syncing blueprint courses. If you use the migrate function here:  https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-migrate-a-Canvas-quiz-to-New-Quizzes/ta... in the blueprint then sync the course it will sync over the migrated quizzes and item banks.

Thank you for the response! It would be helpful if there were an option for that. Migrating individual quizzes into hundreds of blueprints will be time-consuming and labor-intensive.

Our institution is on this path as well. We have found that importing includes an option to transition to New Quizzes, mostly seamlessly. We import into a sandbox AND ensure the 'New Quizzes' checkbox is marked for transitioning the Classic Quizzes into New Quizzes. Maybe you could try that and then import into an unused Blueprint course to see if it keeps it's locks? Have you tried that?
