New Quizzes - Essay Questions After a few characters you have to click again to type

We don't have a live course yet, but have a published course for testing and noticed that when you try to answer the essay question on a new quiz, you can type one or two characters then it makes you click to continue typing.  I removed the only JS we had which was ReadSpeaker, I created a new quiz with no HTML mark up or CSS, to make sure.  We're using chrome and it happens on all new quizzes. We're rolling out our first course in days.  Does anyone have suggestions as this isn't something we want our clients to experience?
