Since New Quizzes have the overall points not tied to the question points, and then applies the question points percentage to the overall points - it seems problematic for the default for a new course to have zero points possible overall. If that gets missed, students end up with zero points no matter what, because it'll adjust their percentage to a zero point possible score.
Maybe it could be at least 10 or 100 or something just for New Quizzes. Assignments are fine.
You may think this wouldn't happen or instructors just need to check the points like any other assignment, but New Quizzes is different because literally everything else is in the separate "Build" screen, and it's not intuitive that this very important overall point value is both not related to the questions within, and the only important item on the settings page before clicking "Build."
Alternatively, the overall points could be a prominent thing to adjust within the Build screen as well.
I just entered two quizzes and both show as zero points even though I just put all the questions in and ensured that each question had the number of points I wanted on that question. This is B.S. How do we change this and why doesn't the Canvas total this automatically????
Not sure this helps but there's two areas to check for points when you use New Quizzes. Since New Quizzes no longer has a practice quiz option I think that might be one reason they separated out these areas, so you can have a 0 point quiz.
