New Quizzes not updating scores after manual grading

I am an instructor and I've been encountering an issue since I began using new quizzes about 9 months ago. Here is the scenario:
- I am grading New Quizzes which include some questions that require manual grading (essay or file upload)
- I go into SpeedGrader to grade the required questions.
- If a student earns no additional points, I mark questions as incorrect (the X) or put in 0 points (the outcome is the same either way. I have tested this.)
- I click "Update" at the bottom of the quiz and I get a green banner that says the grade has been updated. Herein lies the problem: the assignment is not marked as graded with a checkmark next to the student's name as it should be. Clicking "Update" again makes no difference. Only refreshing the page will trigger the quiz to be marked graded and to finally put the score in the gradebook.
This only happens if 0 points are added to the students score. If a student earns points via manual grading their grade updates when I click "Update" as expected.
I've come across this Canvas "Idea" page that was marked complete in February 2023. This is the closest I've found to a similar issue to the one I'm experiencing.
