Our campus is moving to Canvas from Moodle. One feature in Moodle quizzes that I very much miss is the ability for students to build on prior attempts in a quiz. I don't want them wasting their time filling in the answers to questions they already correctly answered in a prior attempt. I would like to request that this feature be included as an option in new quizzes.
Thank you!
Rolf

it is added and I am not sure whether it is working correctly.
I hope this is helpful.

Yes, it should work. I have 25 questions on my quizzes and all 25 questions are from item banks. However, it is not clear how the build on prior attempt works since my students still get 25 different questions when they attempt their second attempt. I was hoping that they don't have to do the ones they got right.
Hi Rolf,
The Moderation settings in New Quizzes allows you to reopen a student’s most recent quiz attempt. You can adjust timer settings.

Hi John,
Thank you for responding but I don't believe your suggestion addresses the issue I brought up. I would like a setting on quizzes that when a students is allowed multiply attempts on quiz, all the questions they previously answered correctly do not need to be answered again. This would mean that on each attempt their score could improve and they only need to focus on questions they previously missed on a prior attempt. This is an option in Moodle quizzes and I would like to see it in Canvas. I don't see how adjusting timer settings on quizzes is relevant.
Best,
Rolf
Do you know when this feature will be available to use?
@CrystalFish this feature is already available in Beta environment and will be available in production/live environment on 16th Sept
it is added and I am not sure whether it is working correctly.
I hope this is helpful.

It would be nice if there was an option to pull a fresh question from a bank instead of displaying the same question when multiple attempts are allowed.
It definitely pulls a fresh question if they are coming from item banks.
With this build on last attempt, does it work when part of the assignment is drawing random questions from a test bank?
Yes, it should work. I have 25 questions on my quizzes and all 25 questions are from item banks. However, it is not clear how the build on prior attempt works since my students still get 25 different questions when they attempt their second attempt. I was hoping that they don't have to do the ones they got right.
I did a trial run of this, but my quizzes drew from a bank and had some questions with multiple answers that allowed partial credit, my students got error messages. I would really love to use this feature, but it seems like there are some bugs to work out. Does it work with questions that receive partial credit? It seems like it should, my preference would be for it to only hide questions they got full credit on.
Yes, it gives partial credit if you have set up your item bank with filling multiple blanks, or multiple dropdowns. However, my first quiz had bugs for students.
My next quiz is scheduled for October. I hope it will go without any issues.
