Canvas and Sapphire developed an automated integration between the two systems for provisioning (rostering) by using APIs made available from OneRoster 1.1. OneRoster enables a bi-directional transaction to provision data to Canvas, with grade passback coming in the future. This article gives an overview of the Canvas and Sapphire integration. Integration Overview The bi-directional OneRoster integration breaks down as follows: Provisioning: a one-way transfer from Sapphire's OneRoster 1.1 API to Canvas. As you make changes to users, courses, enrollments, etc. in Sapphire, those changes will be reflected in Canvas with your nightly sync.  Grade passback (GPB): Grade passback is currently in beta. Please contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) with questions about Sapphire GPB. Supported Objects Provisioning: Staff Students Sub-accounts Terms Courses Sections Enrollments GPB: Grade passback is still in a testing phase and is not general availability Sapphire Integration Prerequisites  Request your OneRoster 1.1 credentials from Sapphire. Licensing may be required by Sapphire. Please talk to your SIS provider for additional information. Your OneRoster credentials (API URL, client key, and client secret) should be sent to us securely via a Canvas-provided link.  Once our team receives your OneRoster 1.1 credentials, we will check our ability to connect. If you are converting from one SIS to another, or are transitioning from a different integration, our team will need to perform an evaluation against your data. Our team will let you know if we have concerns about converting. Known Sapphire Integration Limitations If we are filtering data by school and a user moves from one school to another, the user account will be deleted and restored. I am at a small college and we currently require all grades to be recorded in Canvas, however, we are required to input our midterm and final grade into Jenzabar as that connects to all of our in-house, reports, transcripts, tracking forms...yadda yadda yadda. As of right now, our faculty have to re-enter their final grade in our Faculty Course Control element. I would like to see an integration where our professors can click a button in Canvas that pushes their class grades to Jenzabar or click on a button in Jenzabar that pulls those grades. I am at the mercy of my programmer and he has lots of reasons why this can't work.  As a result, I am reaching out to the community to find help! So my questions to the Canvas community:    How many schools who also use Jenzabar have an easy grade integration built?    If so, what have been some unforeseen issues that might have occurred with this integration?    Finally, would any of you be willing to share come code or be a sounding board for me or, more importantly, my    programmer? ... "HTTP response HTTP/1.1 409 Conflict response: {"message":"TeacherCategoryID is not active or does not belong to lead teacher for Section","errors":[{"resource":"AssignmentService","field":"Sections.Dcid","code":" EXAMPLE "},{"resource":"AssignmentService","field":"TeacherCategory.TeacherCategoryId","code":" EXAMPLE "}]}" What does it mean? A teacher is trying to pass an assignment to a grading category that still exists in Canvas but was deleted in PTP. What are the steps to resolve or is there a workaround? Recollect grading categories in Kimono. Have the user delete inactive grading categories from Canvas and re-import grading categories. Once imported, move assignments to PTP-created categories and try syncing grades again.  Status/Notes: - Error Message - Due Date Must Be Between...: What does it look like? "HTTP response HTTP/1.1 409 Conflict response: {"message":"Due date must be between 08/28/2017 and 01/19/2018.","errors":[]}" What does it mean? A teacher has added multiple due dates to an assignment (i.e. user differentiated assignments) OR dates outside the range of the course’s section. NOTE: The Canvas to PTP integration also does not support user differentiated assignments. What are the steps to resolve or is there a workaround? R emove multiple due dates, such as user differentiated due dates and re-sync Status/Notes: - Error Message - Assignment Already Exists What does it look like? "HTTP response HTTP/1.1 409 Conflict response: {"message":"An assignment already exists with this name EXAMPLE   and due date 09/30/2017 for one or more classes.","errors":[{"resource":"AssignmentResource","field":"Sections.Dcid","code":"46161"}]}" What does it mean? An assignment already exists in the SIS' gradebook, most likely manually created and is conflicting with the assignment sent from Canvas to the SIS. What are the steps to resolve or is there a workaround? Delete the assignment in the SIS and retry sending grades. Status/Notes: - Error Message - Student does not have an AssignmentStudentAssociation  What does it look like? " HTTP response HTTP/1.1 409 Conflict response: {"message":"Student.id [EXAMPLE] does not have an AssignmentStudentAssociation in AssignmentSection.Id: [EXAMPLE]","errors":[]} " What does it mean? The user with DCID EXAMPLE is not enrolled in this course in PowerSchool. What are the steps to resolve or is there a workaround? Enroll the missing student in PowerSchool, or remove them from Canvas Status/Notes: - Error Message - Expected one transaction What does it look like? "Expected one transaction for grades export collection ‘b015271e-f140-4a89-bdd3-e3897573ee80’, but was 2" What does it mean? The request timed out. What are the steps to resolve or is there a workaround? Sync the grades again. At our district we have the option to enable the nightly sync from Canvas to Skyward.  All of the Syncs and the completed status or error messages show up in the SIS integration tab and I can flip thru 90 pages of recent syncs and identify any errors that occurred so I can help communicate to teachers on how to correct any issues.  It would be amazing if there was a way to export this list so that I could more easily connect with teachers.  Has anyone had luck with exporting this or finding SIS integration grade sync history in the API?    Thanks   ...
