Related to 1., students can also see snippets of content that should be locked to them (e.g., because the module doesn't open until a specific time or a prerequisite hasn't been completed) through search result previews.

Similar to this, Smart Search displays pages with prerequisites(haven't been completed yet), and the preview also shows the content. After clicking on it, it will tell you the page 'hasn't been unlocked yet.'

Disappointing that over 2 months later, this security question has not been addressed. @LukePratherCUB , have you considered picking this up with your account manager?

I can confirm that Smart Search does show a summary of the items in the results, but limits access to the actual item (announcement example attached). 

I'd like to piggyback on this feedback. The smart search also provides students access to announcements and other content that hasn't been made available to the students. It allows students to see the contents of the file.

Perhaps the formatting of the result paragraph could be improved, as it can sometimes look a bit jumbled. While I understand the need to present information about the result, enhancing the formatting could make it clearer and more readable.

We have special 'testing' subaccounts where we place the few sites we want to test specific feature previews with. They have same settings as our root subaccount except for the feature preview we want to test enabled. We then move the select few site...

Through initial investigations, and after talking with a Canvas rep, it appears that Smart Search can't be enabled at the course level. Also, if it is enabled at the admin level, it will automatically be visible in the navigation pane of all courses....
