In my canvas account 4 coerces were functioned properly, for the last one month . But from the last few days onward while uploading files it shows an error ' Error : Your request failed Status code 400 " . Same error shows with different Browsers and different PCs . In one course I have deleted all the uploaded files to get more space, but then also the same error shows

One of our faculty members is getting the same error. Is there a solution? I've requested more course space in hopes that resolves the issue.
I've been having the same issue repeatedly. I submitted a ticket to Canvas support more than a week ago. No response.
Similar circumstances described by students trying to submit files for assignments. When they attempt to try again later as I ma helping them troubleshoot the issue, it cannot be recreated. They have shown me screen captures of the message. i can help them with the file upload, I cannot undo the frustration and panic they felt as they tried time and again to upload the file.
I am not sure which step helps to workaround the issue; clearing browser cache, closing all applications, rebooting machine but again I have not been able to recreate the issue.
I had the same issue when trying to embed an image in my discussion post. my storage was too full on canvas. go to profile > files > my files. next select any documents or images you no longer need (surprisingly a lot of uploads will be there). Now select the three dots on the side of the selected file and click delete from the drop down menu. now refresh your page and look at the bottom left hand corner. this should have a bar indicating how much space you have left on canvas. If it is below 100% you will be able to successfully upload. hope this helps!
Got a tutor with the same issue. Turns out that the tutor has fran out of space in the course for storing files.
Check the files section, you might have duplicate files which you could delete to free up space.
same - can no one help? baljugs did you ever find a solution?

Chatted with Canvas tech support. Their suggestion is to Add a Page and name the page the same as the name of the video. Then use the record/upload media tool in the rich content editor and then it won't count toward the space quota. I tested this in one of my courses to see if there is a change in the used space and there's no change in the amount of space used.
It seems that PPT are becoming "beefier". I have encountered issues where the faculty can upload other types of files into their course folder, but not PPT. And then it throws the 400 error--which is not very helpful.
Hi,
I have two students who are also getting this error message when trying to post images to their discussions. It happens when I "become" them as well, so it is clearly linked to their accounts. and neither of them has anything close to too many files.
Has anyone found an answer to this? Help would be much appreciated.

Adding a page is not a solution when you need to upload a file, not a video. Is there a real solution to this problem? I have a class to plan for Monday. I don't have time to wait for Canvas to answer me, and their phone number isn't manned.

I have a teacher reporting this today. I googled and am providing the solution Harvard posted, How can I fix "400 Bad Request" errors on trying to access Canvas? | Canvas @ GSE IT (harvard.edu).
I'm also going to review if they've run out of server space in their course or personal Canvas account - just in case. 🙂
For me this was caused by a Dropbox to Mac problem. I was trying to upload files to Canvas that I had in Dropbox. The solution turned out to be "right clicking" on the document which downloaded it to Dropbox from the cloud. Then I was able to upload the documents to Canvas. Right clicking on them generated a green check by them. Then they could be uploaded.
Not sure if that helps anybody but it solved my version of this issue.

Hi!
I was having this problem also, when trying to upload powerpoint files. I found a workaround.
Go to Account > Files > click the folder on the left that says Unfiled > drag and drop your file into there (it should upload successfully there) > click the 3 dots on the right > Move to > choose the course you are trying to move it to > Go to that course's Canvas page as you usually would > click on the Module you want to place the file in > select the file from the list (the uploaded one we uploaded in Unfiled will show up > WELL-AH!
This is the only thing that worked for me after a few weeks of this issue!
Liana.
If you have admin rights, you can go in and from the Course Details page, change the file storage to accommodate new files.

Hi Jenn
Yes very true, but if you look at the files section you may discover that the same file has already been there, so no point in re-uploading the files again.
Also, I'm not 100% sure if there is a storage limit set by Instructure as to the max size of your instititions instance, which could be one of the reasons why when you create a new course it defaults to 500MB storage limit. 🤔
This error stumped me. I was uploading a 30.5 MB pptx file, I got the Request failed Status Code 400 error. The CANVAS Chat person asked "How large was the file?", but he said files up to 50 MB should be OK. I had plenty of server space (< 1 % used). I deleted the last four slides in the file (images I did not need just to make it smaller) and then saved it again; it was 27.6 MB after that. I uploaded it successfully. It could be a file size issue (< 30 MB not 50 MB like Canvas says) or maybe one of the final slides were corrupted, I can't tell which. The Canvas Chat helper did not know what it was, either. My best solution is to make the file < 30 MB and delete slides that are not needed; this makes it smaller.
