[ARCHIVED] How can an instructor manually replace a student submission?

A student uploaded an incorrect file.  I would like to manually change the file submission.  How do I do this?  If not possible, how do I open the assignment only for that one student?

It is not possible for instructors to submit files on behalf of a student for a given assignment in Canvas.  It's also not possible to delete a submission if a student submitted incorrectly.  There is an existing Feature Idea that you might want to check out, however: Submit an assignment on behalf of a student - Canvas Community.  If you feel that this Feature Idea aligns with something you'd like to see implemented in Canvas, I would encourage you to rate it and maybe post a comment at the bottom why this would be important for you in Canvas.  See How do idea conversations work in the Canvas Commu... - Canvas Community for more details.

So you're referring us to a thread that was created 5.5 years ago and asking us to add more to the over 200 comments that say we would like to have this feature added, in the vain hopes that maybe some day in the next decade or so, Canvas might be gracious enough to implement it???  Just admit it, like with every other thread I've seen asking for a feature for YEARS--Canvas does nothing to address the needs of the users because it knows our administrators are the ones making the LMS decisions so we lowly educators have no power to walk away and take our dollars elsewhere.  Canvas just cares about selling points to administrators with cute buzz words like "cloud based."  I've been forced to use Canvas for less than a year and I could've made a nice sum of money already if I had a dollar for every time I've seen a years-old thread asking for a feature to be added and nothing but crickets has been the response.

First off, let me say I am sorry that Canvas hasn't always lived up to your expectation these past six months, and in this case in particular that we don't have this feature.  Its something that has become increasingly important for teachers, particularly as we have seen a huge influx of K12 teachers using a software platform that was once used almost exclusively in university settings.  While I cannot comment on specific timelines or development projects this is functionality we want to get into your hands a.s.a.p.

There are quite a few feature ideas in the community that have now been out there for years.  What is harder to see are the hundreds that aren't visible because we have already developed them.  And although it isn't helpful to you in this instance, people who track how many features we build that cater to admins, teachers and students sometimes criticize us for spending too much of our available engineering time building for students and teachers at the expense of more admin tools and features.

Again, I apologize that we don't have things that people have been asking for, sometimes for years, but please bear with us as we continue to build out Canvas and make it better.

I'd also like to bring your attention to this related update, which does not directly address your question but does allow institutions a way to remove unwanted or inappropriate student submitted files.
