There used to be all sorts of options in the body of the essay to circle, strike-through, comment on a particular word or sentence, and they are gone now. Why were they removed and can we get them back?
If I want to circle or note typos or misspelled words, those tools were perfect.
Solved! Go to Solution.
You should definitely be able to use the annotations feature for students who submitted a document. Annotations are not available for text entry submissions. Have you tried clearing your cache using this guide to see if that makes a difference? If you are still unable to use the annotations feature you can reach out to Canvas support directly to troubleshoot this.

How do I add annotated comments in student submissions using DocViewer in SpeedGrader?
Hi Agrimstad,
The annotation tools work when your students upload files, not when they submit answers with the text entry box. I'm not sure why the annotation tools don't work with the text entry boxes, but that's the issue.
When you set up the Assignment, limit the students' submissions to file uploads. That should solve your problem.
Thank you, SusanNiemeyer,
for your reply. That, indeed, used to be the case. However, this winter even the uploaded papers do not have those tools. See both screenshots: one from this semester, with limited options and the other from the previous semester with more options. Both of them are for uploaded Assignments.
Yes, I see the difference, but how have you set up the Assignments for this semester? Can you show us a screenshot of the editing page which shows the kinds of submissions a student can make?
I am mystified then. Maybe someone else will have the solution.

Thank you. I cleared my cache, and it is still not working, so I will reach out to Canvas support.
