We are a Microsoft campus. We have some faculty that are using the collaborations feature in Canvas, but the default option for collaborations is Google Docs. Is there a way to remove Google, or to at least make Microsoft the default selections?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi - I had the same question and saw this discussion https://community.canvaslms.com/thread/17277-hiding-google-app-collaborations - I haven't tried it yet but looks like it is possible in the admin settings?
Hi @sbeck1 ,
If you go to "apps" and install "Office 365" into your course (see the https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-7618-faq-office-365 for more info), you will then have the Microsoft option to use when you create a collaboration at the bottom. How do I create a Microsoft Office 365 collaboration as an instructor?
Is this more what you were looking for? It will also give students the ability to upload via 365 rather than only google docs.
Roxanne, we have added Office 365, however Google Docs is the first option that is available in the collaboration area. Is there a way to change the order of the options?
That's an excellent question! One I unfortunately don't have the answer to. I could see this being done with some custom code, but I'm not sure where to start on that. By the looks of it, Google is Canvas' preferred collaboration suite since the write up heavily suggests using it. However, I'll go ahead and share this with the https://community.canvaslms.com/groups/designers?sr=search&searchId=19d4c4f3-f8a5-4537-a10f-1df9d4df... space to see if anyone has any code to hide one of the options.
I did try another instance that didn't have google installed as an app to see if it would disappear, but it looks like it comes as a default.

YES! @natalie_norton1 Thank You for your sharp eye. This worked perfectly.
@sbeck1 looks like we can! Just tested it myself and it works.
Thank you!
That link is now archived and unavailable, is it possible to have that republished?
I have the opposite question. We are a Google district, but the only option I get when I click on Collaborations is MS 365. How do we add Google Drive to the Collaboration tool? We have the Google Drive and Google Assignments LTI tools installed (and used frequently), in Modules and Assignments, but Google is not showing up in Collaborations.
