How are you handling assignment groups showing in grade book?

I am starting next semester on Canvas with the same material as the fall plus new material for the spring. I have four assignment groups : fall assignments, fall assessments as well as spring assignments and assessments. 

All of the fall assignments and assessments are unpublished, however, the fall groups are showing in the grade book. Is there a way to shut this off? We can disable modules but don’t see this in assignment groups. 

Am I missing a setting or does someone have a recommendation? I want to keep the full year together because I still ask review questions from the fall.

Second, it looks like you have stumped the Canvas Community.  Were you able to find an answer to your question? I am going to go ahead and mark this question as answered because there hasn't been any more activity in a while so I assume that you have the information that you need. Unfortunately, this remains an issue. Even unpublishing everything in the group doesn’t help.

It looks like this hasn't been addressed. I'd like to do the same thing - keep the assignments in the current instance of the course instead of having to go back and copy assignments from a previous semester. We are currently creating a course and iterating a lot but in case I want to re-use assignments I'd like to have them handy. I created an assignment group called "Old Assignments" but I don't want students to see it or have to worry about it. Like a "Published" or "Unpublish" option for groups, so that students could see them or not, would be useful.
