What does it mean for Canvas to say "Test Student scores are not included in grade statistics"? I see that on my test student grades page. In particular, this sentence appears when I click on the check mark icon right next to several assignments I created. I have no idea why the icon appears on those assignments, but not other assignments. It does not matter whether it has "missing" or not (no co-relations).
This is an example:
I have received this question from three of my online students who saw the similar sentence on their grade page's certain assignments. I don't recall this issue in previous semesters.
I am confused as my students are. I can tell my students that these scores will not be dropped from the final calculation of their grade, but that's not an ideal solution.
Please help and provide suggestion as to how to fix it.
Thank you!
Hi @tono
What this means is that any scores created when you used the built-in Test Student (by clicking on "Student View") are not calculated in any course statistics. This is a good thing, because if they were included, they could skew the statistics of actual students, such as average score, or their ranking in a course, or grading terms, etc.
This guide explains the Test Student well How do I view a course as a test student using Student View?
If you would like to remove the Test Student, these step provided by @Chris_Hofer will show you how..........
In order to remove the "Test Student" from the Gradebook, go to Settings, and then click on the Sections tab. Next, click on the section number that is listed under the Course Sections heading. Under the Current Enrollments heading, you should see Student, Test with a really long string of characters (numbers and letters). This is the "Test Student" that you will want to remove. Move your mouse over this account, and there should be a red "X" for you to click on to remove it. (Again, if you don't see this, speak to an admin at your school.) Be aware, though, that if you ever use the Student View button (via Settings) again, this will show back up, and you'd have to remove it if you don't want to see it any more.
I hope this helps,
Kelley
Hi Kelley,
Thank you! The issue here is not just me ("test student"), and I don't want to remove "test student" per se because it's useful. But, the issue is that it seems to be happening to my students (at least 3 students reported this issue). Why do they see this sentence essentially saying that particular (not all) assignment scores would not count in their grade statistics? This confused my students as well as myself. What can I do?
Thanks!

How can instructors use the "Student View" to see the grade distributions as the students would see them?
