Can a Catalog Listing be re-used for a new cohort (same course, but for a new set of students) and selecting the new Canvas course, or would that mess up the registration, orders, and enrollments records for students who registered for the previous course/cohort?

@dacarter I personally think your suggestion for copying the course into a new course and create a new listing is better because there the analytics will be separated by course.
@dacarter It doesnt work with sections so if that is the way you are trying to make it work it wont work.
The instructor wanted to use the same Canvas course shell since all of the current students are completed, update the start and end dates to the future and then re-use the same Catalog Listing. I recommended that she should instead just copy the course into a new course and create a new listing.
Do you think her suggestion of re-using both the course and Listing would work for new students, while still maintaining the records of those completed students properly within Catalog? Would the Catalog Listing update with the new dates?
This would work if you created a new section and then updated the listing to point to the new section. However, if you're using student caps, the students from previous sections still count against the cap, so you'd have to manually update the cap by adding what you want the cap to be to the amount of students in previous sections.
We were doing this initially and between the student caps and making sure people who enrolled for the next section while the existing section was going didn't have access to all of the course material it was a mess to manage. We finally opted to create new course shells and new listings. And now that Catalog allows for Duplication of Listings it will be much easier going forward.
Oh, and I should add that when looking at the analytics, they only show the course id and not a section id that someone enrolled in. So there's no way of knowing, besides the date of enrollment, what section they enrolled in.
@dacarter I personally think your suggestion for copying the course into a new course and create a new listing is better because there the analytics will be separated by course.
Thank you for your feedback; always appreciated!
