As an institution that has been using Canvas LMS since 2017, we've accumulated a substantial number of courses over the years. Currently, there's no easy way to identify which courses are consuming the most storage space within their allocated quota. This lack of visibility makes it challenging for administrators to manage storage effectively and identify courses that may need attention. Use case example: An administrator needs to perform a storage audit to optimize space usage but has no efficient method to determine which courses are the largest consumers of storage resources.
We propose two potential implementations to address this issue: Add a "Storage Size" column in the existing Courses tab, displaying the current storage usage for each course alongside other course information. Alternatively, introduce a new feature in Admin Analytics that allows administrators to generate reports on course storage usage, including options to sort and filter courses based on their storage consumption. Why this solution is needed: This enhancement would provide administrators with crucial visibility into storage usage across all courses. It would enable more effective storage management, allowing admins to: - Quickly identify courses approaching or exceeding their storage quotas - Prioritize cleanup efforts for courses with excessive storage use - Make informed decisions about storage allocation and policy adjustments - Proactively address potential storage issues before they impact course functionality
