[Dashboard] Make color overlay optional for individual course cards

I really like the color overlay for courses I have created. However, I'm also enrolled in courses created by other instructors, who use colorful images. I have experimented with different color hex codes, but none of them makes those images attractive.

There are two solutions:

1) Make the course overlay option available for individual courses.

2) Give us the option of a "transparent" course overlay as one of the color options.

I see that every time this request is made, and it's made often, the Canvas team tells us how to turn on and off the color overlay for the entire Dashboard. That's not an acceptable solution.

Perhaps the following simple solution should be explored where steps (1) through (4) is done outside of Canvas:

(1) create a rectangle using PowerPoint or any figure drawing utility

(2) fill this rectangle with the color that pleases you

(3) use a snipping tool to cut out this color containing rectangle

(4) save this snipped figure as a jpeg file in a subdirectory

(5) disable the card color overlay feature

(6) import this snipped color figure into your Canvas course card

There are many design variations and applications of  snipping. 

Snipping is one of my favorite design tools.

Let me know if this technique works for you.

Finally, 

Someone who understands the color overlay issue!

I like the Color Overlay idea. 

But some courses have pictures and the color overlay goes over those pictures.

The only solution is to turn off all of the Color Overlay's for all the Course cards.

WHY?!

I want color overlay on some of my courses and I want transparent on the ones with pictures!

Its simple to add transparency! You guys are using HEX Code for colors #RRGGBB.

To add transparency just write it into the code.. Its not too difficult AA representing transparency #AARRGGBB or #RRGGBBAA.
