Rubrics are probably the most tedious work done by Instructional Designers and Instructors. They are also inconsistently done and generally not as clear as they could be. Errors can be made, and often they are not attached to the Speedgrader as they should in my institution at least. If assignments are created with clear Bloom's verb statements, then the rubric creation will be fairly straightforward, but still tedious. At my institution, I use ChatGPT, upload the written assignment, and in the prompt for ChatGPT request that it take the instructions (that contain bloom's statements), and create the rubric. But the work isn't done. I still need to laboriously copy and paste each rubric element into the Canvas LMS Rubric area. This takes maybe 30-40 minutes per written assessment.
If users could highlight the key action items students will need to perform in the assignment (usually those bloom statements mentioned above) then the AI can easily format them, and create the tables with ranged performance levels along the top and ranged criteria below and program them into the LMS. The AI can query the SME/ID for the total point value as well as the percentage for each criterion. This will save so much time!
