Safari 16 (iPadOS 16.x) fails without explanation

I understand that Safari 16 is not supported, but the failure mode could be clearer.

 

I don’t have permission to post images, but you can see the broken page by going to the following:

(Note: this is not the failing URL, but it’s what I get to when going to https://canvas.instructure.com )

it says “Whoops… Looks like nothing is here!” And “Requested URL is invalid.”

 

More friendly would be to detect the browser version and present something.

 

I’ve loaded the iPadOS simulator for 16.4 and was able to reproduce this on a clean iPadOS run, so it’s not a local settings issue.

Thanks for sharing your ideas. You're correct that Safari 16 is not supported. To request a consideration for the UI to be updated to have a clearer error message, you can create an idea in the Ideas space. Learn more by checking out How do I create a new idea in the Instructure Community?
