Canvas Discussions have a cool feature - when creating a discussion, I can choose to "Add to student to-do". This is fantastic.
Naturally, this feature is even more useful in conjunction with Announcements. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to "Add to student to-do" when creating an announcement.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I just created a test announcement to check before replying, but it showed up on the To-Do list in Student View. I had a student check and it was on their To-Do list as well. This appears to be a default function when creating an Announcement. I attached a screenshot of how it looks.

Hello @VPundir
Just as a follow up to what @JeffCampbell mentioned, it should appear in their to-do list. If it doesn't, please contact Canvas Support.
@JeffCampbell @greydon Sorry, I should have been more specific and precise - but when I check the box "Add to student to-do" while creating a discussion, I get to set the date for which the To Do should be added in the students' calendar. How can that be achieved with Announcements?
As far as I am aware, that is a feature unique to discussions. Even assignments do not have the option. As to why, that is for a developer to answer.
So, sounds like at the moment there is not a way to do this. And if anything, I should post this to Ideas.
You can definitely do that. Considering that the Announcements feature is intended to be something to be announced at that time and is added to the To-Do list by default, you will want to include a reason for why you want to make an announcement and delay it being added to the "To-Do" list for students. That will help to make your argument for adding such a feature when you submit it as an Idea.
