No, students are not notified when their status in a course is changed to "Inactive", or when they are removed from the course.

Hi @CarolWadsworth,

I'd just like to add one piece of info to the response from @mzimmerman.. It's 100% correct that Canvas will not send a notification about this, but if the deactivation came from a student information system (SIS) that syncs with Canvas, that system may send the student some sort of notification itself.
