As an Admin, I am looking for a solution to archive unpublished / old courses to clean up the Courses view for Admins, Teachers and Designers.
I understand there is a way to un-star courses per profile but I would like a solution added where any course I archive as an Admin is removed from everyone's view unless permissions to view an archive is added to the users profile.
Hi @MartinOHalloran, thanks for your question! There are a few ways to approach this by changing course or enrollment status through SIS Import. If you want to keep the course active in your instance for Admins, but remove access and visibility for enrolled teachers and/or designers, you could change their status to "deleted" in using an enrollments.csv. If you want to remove the course entirely from your instance, including from the Admin Courses Tab, you can change the course status to "deleted" using a courses.csv. In this case, the course is not hard deleted, as it's retrievable by running a reverse SIS Import, but it will be removed from your instance and Admin view. If you are new to this process, we always suggest testing CSV files in your test or beta instance prior to uploading in production.

Good morning, Carolyn.
Thanks for your speedy reply. I have had a look at the solutions above and the only one I can see that is close to the solution I was thinking of is K16's solution but it is still a bit outside of what I feel is a great asset to Canvas.
While the K16 idea does provide an archiving solution, it is a bit less user friendly that just having a tick box on the course and then an option to archive the course.
If it was something within Canvas, I believe all users of the platform would utilise the solution to it's fullest.
Martin.
Thanks @MartinOHalloran! Yes, the K16 solution is streamlined, and from what I understand does give designated users the option to un-archive with a button click. I searched through the recently submitted ideas, but was not able to find a Theme or Idea related to archiving in the community. If you feel like this is something our Product team should consider for future development, I encourage you to submit an Idea for consideration in future voting periods.
