For modules, the green checkmark only shows up when submitting assignments (on those pages).
It would be useful to show the green checkmark when reading assignments or non-assignments or assessments are done. When the student clicks "next" to go to the next "page" of reading, a green checkmark should mark that section "done." This helps a student
- Feel they are moving forward
- Understand where they left off
- See how much of a module or chapter is left to complete (reading assignments, videos, etc.)
- And helps with overall user experience and information required to navigate the system.
Right now, even for heavy-reading or video assignments,. it still shows 0% on dashboard just because I haven't taken a formative test or quiz.... and this is not accurate, I've already completed almost all of chapter or module 1 (of 12) as far as completing assignments, watching videos, etc. And it still shows 0%.
In online environments and in digital learning, progress bars help busy students understand and make decisions as well as take off any anxieties about where they left off. I recommend this as a feature (change the color if need be) but add a check-mark or "completed" visual cue to help students understand and move forward. I think this will help reduce any cognitive burden and you'll see less drop-outs.
