I teach a chemistry class, and some of my students are confused by due dates for lab assignments because I have them turn in the write up a week after the lab. On their Canvas calendar, however, this makes it look like we're doing a lab a week later than it should be.
Is there a way to create a separate date on the calendar where the lab experiment will be conducted?

Hi @JamesKCOS ,
You can create a course event that will show on the calendar - Lab 5.1 on May 23. This will show on their course calendar and then your Lab 5.1 Write-up assignment will show on the due date.

Ok that works and then I can add a link to the assignment in the description of the event. It's a bit tedious for me, so I'd still like to see a "create an event" option from the edit assignment page that would automatically link the event to the assignment. Then both could be edited from the same page also.
The current workflow:
1. Create an assignment
2. Set a due date
3. Navigate to calendar and create an event
4. Choose more options
5. Link assignment
The workflow I'd like to see:
1. Create an assignment
2. Check a box "create a related event"
3. Set the event date and time
4. Set the due date.
I suggest submitting a feature request for the above.
How do I create a new idea in the Instructure Community?
I would give examples and reasons why this would be helpful. The more information and reasoning the better.
