This is my first semester using Canvas as an instructional platform. So far, I've been able to work through any problems, however, in reviewing my Grades ( as the instructor) I notice that my attendance/participation total for each student has not carried over. Each class is worth 10 points - we have had five classes so the total in Grades should show 50 points for the students with perfect attendance, and less for those who have missed a class. - What shows is 10 points for each student not a culmination. Because this is part of the final grade, students are not currently seeing an accurate reflection of their grade.
Is there a setting that will roll the attendance points into Grades each time I take Roll Call or do I have to manually put those points into grades each time I take Roll Call ?
Hi @PaulaMartin1,
The Roll Call Attendance tool will only create and pass back an attendance grade to one specific assignment/gradebook column, generally with a fixed point value. Without editing that assignment to adjust the point value every day, I don't think the tool is going to do exactly what you've described. You could perhaps use the assignment group weighing feature to always have attendance be a certain percentage of your student's overall grade, but if you just want straight up points, it will likely be a bit more manual work.
