Hello.
We would love to use the RCE video tool in our courses so students do not have to go outside Canvas to record a video. Unfortunately, Instructure does not provide auto captioning.
I understand that autocaptioning is not compliant but wouldn't turning on autocaptioning and providing an opportunity for the user via a flag "please edit these captions before posting your video" create a more accessible and useable tool for everyone?
Please let me know if this is on the road map/if anyone else is encountering this issue. Telling a student to leave Canvas and go record somewhere else to upload that recording to Canvas discussions to get captions is less than ideal. Telling students to record in Canvas but then go capture the auto captions through another tool is just as inaccessible.
Please upvote if you see this. I have no idea how Canvas is figuring out what to add to their roadmap anymore.

Hi there @karaka ,
Thanks for reaching out on the Instructure Community!
You are able to access the Road Map for Instructure products at this link: https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructure-Roadmap/ct-p/instructure-roadmap
Canvas Studio (which is an additional subscription in addition to Canvas) does have an auto-captioning feature, however, you're right, there isn't an auto captioning feature at this time for media uploaded within the Rich-Content Editor. Do you think this would be something worth submitting a feature idea for? https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructure-Community-Guide/How-do-I-create-a-new-idea-in-the-Ins...
All the best to you!

Hi Noah.
Thank you for your response and for linking to the roadmap. On the roadmap I see Q3 "Captions for all Canvas media can be automatically generated and published, making it easy for educators to provide accessible content for learners in Canvas."
Do you happen to have any idea if that would include the RCE video recorder and if this would be ready for the start of fall?
Thank you again for your time
No problem @karaka ,
While I don’t know for sure if this will be something available for the Fall, I think it will almost be safe to say that this will be a feature available with recorded media within the RCE. However, please don’t take my word for it because I am unsure of all the details at this time!
But I hope that helps in some way.
@AkosFarago, are you able to respond to @karaka's question?

Captioning of recorded media from the RTE is a feature that is really important to us for accessibility since we don't have Canvas Studio. However, I don't see it listed on the Q3 roadmap. Am I missing something?
