Classic Quiz Ending

Is Canvas still getting rid of the Classic Quiz and forcing everything to become a New Quiz?  If so, what's the end date?

While that was indeed the plan for a while, Instructure has decided to not eliminate Classic Quizzes a couple of years ago.

There is currently no general deadline that I can see for moving to New Quizzes (though individual institutions might choose to force their instructors to move to New Quizzes - which might be a problem, as it doesn't have feature parity yet)

Just to add quickly to what @Gabriel33  said, while Instructure does not currently have a sunset date for Classic Quizzes, your own school/institution might have set their own date.

For my institution, we'll be disabling the creation of any new classic quizzes at the end of April of this year.  I know some other institutions haven't even made new Quizzes available yet though, so things really are all over the board at this point.  Checking in with your local school/institution team may be a good idea just to confirm their plans.

Hey Chris,

Thanks for sharing that! We're also disabling the creation of Classic Quizzes this June at our institution.

I'm wondering—if staff return in the fall and still have Classic Quizzes in their previously enrolled Canvas courses, will they still be able to import those Classic Quizzes into their new term courses and then migrate them to New Quizzes? I'm trying to plan ahead and support instructors who may have missed the transition window or forgotten to migrate something important.

Also, do you happen to know if there's an API we could run to identify users who are still using Classic Quizzes in their courses? That would really help us target support and communication more effectively.

Hi @trebz,

You'll likely want to enable the "new quizzes migration required" feature option.  When that is enabled, classic quizzes are automatically converted to new quizzes as part of an import.

As for classic quiz usage, I'd recommend looking in your Account -> Analytics Hub -> Usage & Adoption -> Courses Tab -> Feature Use in Courses with Activity box and clicking the Classic Quizzes bar.  That should show you any courses with Classic Quizzes remaining (you can adjust the filters for the term if you'd like to look at past courses as well as current).
