Creating Calendar events without adding a To Do item

As the title states, I wish to create calendar events without cluttering students To Do lists. Not all events I feel need to be added as a To Do item as they are simply a reminder and no action is associated with them. An example would be a holiday break. I would like to be able to add something such as Thanksgiving Break No Classes without this appearing as a To Do item.
