When the Checkpoint feature is released (1/18/2025), will it automatically appear in current discussions, or will I need to create new discussions in order to have this feature available?
Our classes begin before the release date, and I am trying to plan what changes will need to be made so that I am not duplicating work unnecessarily.
Thanks!

Hi @sbullock ...
In addition to the information that you received from @stimme earlier today, I wanted to share this link with you:
Canvas Release Notes (2025-01-18) - Instructure Community - 626856 .
As you can see, this can also apply to existing discussion topics in your course.
I hope this will be of some help to you. Sing out if you have any questions...thanks!
@sbullock I did a little testing in the Beta environment ( What is the Canvas beta environment? ). It appears that you could create a graded discussion now and enable checkpoints later. I cannot guarantee that that will be the case in the Production environment and for all time, but that is the case now in Beta.
I will also note that Checkpoints are set to be disabled by default at the account level. It will be up to system administrators at your institution to enable the feature for the institution before you will have the option to enable Checkpoints in specific discussions.
