Discussions Posts Limit

Hello everyone,

Is there a limit on how many discussions post we can have in one go?

I am a TA and the professor has asked the students to post 5 discussions during the semester. I have 100 students so I have 500 Discussion posts to exist. currently at around 100 discussions we are unable to proceed further as students have started reporting that they cannot post new discussions.

As a TA i can still make new discussion posts but not the students.

Hi @cyrusxu,

Can you clarify whether you are having students create totally new discussions, or are they replying to a discussion setup by the teacher (or you)?  If they are all creating brand new discussions, I could imagine some difficulty at some point, though I don't know of an exact number.  If the students are replying, which would be more typical, you should be able to have quite large discussions, hundreds of replies should be fine as far as I know.

Let us know which scenario matches what you're doing, and perhaps if any students can you tell you an exact error they get, that could be helpful for troubleshooting.

Hello Chris,

Turns out it was a system issue where Students limited to viewing own section(s) cannot create new discussions.

This was raised to the CANVAS team and this was the response
"Students who are limited to viewing users in their assigned sections will find that they cannot create new discussions, in Discussions where students are allowed to create new Discussion threads.

Canvas acknowledged the issue on Wed 4 Sep at 0355 hrs and are investigating the cause.

We apologise for this issue.
