Displayed name does not update

I have a student whose name appears as her email address in Canvas. She attempts to edit her display name in her account settings and it appears she can do that successfully, but in the course lists she continues to show up as her email address. This has happened to me before with a couple other students, where, despite their names appearing correctly within their account profiles, they appear in the course list, gradebook, etc. with an email address or a blank space that doesn´t reflect the name they have entered. We are using the free version so there is no institutional administrator controlling this. Any insights to what we can do to get their names to display correctly?

Have you tried having the student update their Full Name via Account settings instead of just Display Name? It sounds like their email address may have been entered as their full name.
