Hi
Does anyone know of a way my university can enroll outside people in a course with student access?
They do not have university ID's and are not currently students.
The reason they need access is to test their skills and knowledge so they can then enrol in the correct level course for them.
So the guest access is not suitable as they need to complete quizzes.
Any tips or insights are appreciated.
Thanks Marg
Hi, @MargaretRobson1: If enabled at your institution, you can enable course self-enrollment with a join code or secret URL. You may need to reach out to your admin to enable this feature.
I hope this helps.

Thanks @ELTabe, Good to know and I will reach out to our admin team.
In my experience, this is an administrative setting you would need to follow up at your university. As an example, we allow pre-service teachers access to some courses, however, our IT department needs to make arrangements for the access in the first instance.
Does your university offer any of the courses as Massive Open Online Courses? This might be another alternative so they can enrol with their own log in process and you can review the results - you could perhaps set the MOOC as a pre-requisite to entry and registering for your internal course.
Let me know what you think and how it all goes.
Thanks
Jen
Hi @MargaretRobson1,
It sounds like you are doing something like placement tests for perspective or admitted students. This is something that we do in a semi-custom way by basically have "special" courses in our SIS (Banner) and including them in our data transfers to Canvas. Even if the individuals looking to be evaluated/tested/ are only perspective, we still create user accounts for them (before involving Canvas) so that they can get into Canvas.
If you would like to talk a little more about this, please let me know and I will try my best to explain it in more detail.
