File storage quota exceeded

Whenever I try to upload a picture in a Discussion, I get the error "File storage quota exceeded". I have used 0% of the 1GB in my files. Any fixes?

I am a student. 

I have tried inserting a picture from the Discussion tool. I have tried copy and pasting. 

I have been able to embed a version of the picture with code when I upload it to Kaltura, but it puts a border around it. 

Interestingly enough, I was just able to upload into a separate discussion. I went back into the other that I am having issues in, and got the same error.

Hi @JoshMercurio,

Can you give us more detail about how you're trying to include the image?  Are you using the "attach" button below the rich content editor (text box) or trying to insert the image into the text box itself?  The file storage calculations for discussions in Canvas get pretty complex.  In general, things attached to graded discussions should be exempt from the quote, but ungraded discussions count against the quota.  That small difference is why I'm guessing things might work fine in one discussion for you but not another.

You also mentioned Kaltura, which is a 3rd party add-on which has completely different storage from Canvas, and probably why that worked, albeit with a border around your image.

If you get us a bit more info, we might be able to offer some suggestions or confirm if things are working as intended.

I am using the dropdown, upload image.

I have also copy and pasted from snipping tool on my windows laptop. I have also tried insert--picture

Hi @JoshMercurio,

Can you show us a screenshot of your user files area (click your account/picture, then choose the files area there)?  That could help confirm that you should have storage space left (or not).

This honestly may be something to bring up with your teacher of the Canvas team (usually in the eLearning / IT / Digital Education areas) at your school/institution, as it may require more investigation and access than what other Canvas users like @Chris_Hofer  and I in the community here are able to provide.

Hi @MelvinGardnerRa,

You'll need to reach out to your school/institution team to confirm the file storage quotas/limits they will have in place for you.  They can very greatly from school/institution to school/institution, and as the community is made up of primarily other users from around the world, we don't have any specific info or access to your exact Canvas instance.

I hope this at least gives you a bit of direction!
