Group Homepage Collaboration Launch LTI error message - "You are not allowed to view this content"

I am an instructor and created student groups to allow them to work on group projects.

I can access the Collaborations created in the main course menu, but when I go to a Group Homepage and try to open Collaborations from the group homepage, I get the LTI error "You are not allowed to view this content".

I am always able to view Collaborations in the main course page, just not the Group homepage.

Edit: Logging out of Office 365 and logging back in does not solve this problem (as it does if you can't open Collaborations at all).

Hi @JDM1,

I believe this is likely something hat's "by design" (as much as I hate it when others tell me that).  The way Canvas has treated the groups is mostly in context of working on things together, like collaborating on an assignment. Group discussions may be the exception to this rule, but it does depend a bit on how they are used.  With that in mind, I think Canvas somewhat designed the group space to be a virtual version of "let's all meet at the coffee hours at 3:00 to work on this".  As the teacher, you do have some access to the group page, but you'll notice you're not listed on the group's people page.  Since the collaboration tools create things based on the enrollment of the people page, it's only adding the students, leaving you to get an access denied.  The students should be able to add you to their document manually if that's something you want to require.

I hope this helps explain what's going on, even though it might not be the best solution.

I'm encountering the same problem.  I've set up groups, each group creates a word file that is a collaboration, and I don't have access to the files' content when visiting the group homepage. I can edit the name of the file and I can see/edit the students who have access to the collaboration within the group, but I get told I don't have access when I click on the file name. I also don't see a way to add myself to the group.

How do I view content and student activity within a group as an instructor? | Canvas Instructor Guid... suggests that I should be able to view all the activity within the group, which I expect would include the content of their collaboration.

Any suggestions?  Or can you confirm that "view all the student activity within the group" does not actually include the content they write in a collaboration?
