Group project announcements and notifications

Thanks in advance to reading my question.

We created several groups for our students to collaborate.
Now if you go to the home page of the group project, you'll see that it's possible to make announcements.
Is it possible to:

1. Disable that option (for everyone or for the students)?
2. Disable the notifications of that group project announcements?

Hi @TINHO13,

I don't believe there is any way to disable Announcements in group spaces.  As far as I know that's just base built-in functionality of how collaborative groups are designed to function in Canvas.

Notifications for group announcements would be the same setting for each user as a course announcements, so while that could technically be shut off you'd also be disabling course announcement notifications which you likely do not want to do.

@chriscas I am a student within a group. I noticed that I receive no notification whenever there is a group announcement, nor with group discussion posts/replies.

Your reply stated, "Notifications for group announcements would be the same setting for each user as a course announcements." I see notifications from my course, so does this mean there should be notifications for the group somewhere? Granted, the course notifications are shown in the Dashboard view, and I can't view my group there; therefore, no notification.

Do you know if there's any other way that a student in a group can receive such notifications?

Hi @WendellDuncan ...

There are two main areas to set notification settings within your own profile: at the user account level and at the course level.  Account level notifications apply for your entire Canvas account, while course level notifications apply just to a given course.
