In the Gradebook, the track of the horizontal scrollbar at the bottom partially covers the grades of the last student when using Chrome or Safari. This is not a problem in Firefox, where the scrollbar is narrower until the mouse cursor hovers over it. See the attached screenshots for illustration.
I have told our faculty that they can work around this by using Firefox (obviously), by grading an assignment for the Test Student so they appear at the bottom of the Gradebook, or by enabling the "Overlay Scrollbars" option in chrome://flags. But these aren't great solutions. This feels like something that would be better addressed by Instructure with, e.g., a CSS fix. Is it recognized as a bug? I don't see an issue in Github and would be happy to file one if that's helpful.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I just spoke with Canvas Support. It is a known issue and will be address and a fix deployed. Our case has been attached to the other related cases.
Hello everyone...
For those curious, this was the Known Issue document related to this conversation:

Hello - I use the latest version of Chrome Version 123.0.6312.122 (Official Build) (64-bit) and confirm experiencing a similar issue. In my view the bottom row in Grades appears as such:
Grades
We are experiencing the same issue and are advising instructors to decrease the Zoom percentage in their Chrome browser as a workaround.
If you haven't done so already this would be good to report to Canvas Support so they can investigate the issue further and resolve it.
Can also confirm that we are seeing this issue as well. We haven't nailed down the consistency yet. A teacher reported this first, and is using a Mac running latest version of Chrome browser. I was able to replicate the issue on Windows using Edge and Chrome. However, we checked it on another Mac using Chrome and the scrollbar did not interfere.
We are suggesting teachers use the student view so that the test student is the row being obscured.

Hello,
I just noticed that the gradebook now has a very thin scrollbar so even though I can see all students, the scrollbar is so thin I can't grab it to use it. I can either click on another part of the scroll bar to have it jump or I need to click on a cell and move through the gradebook using the keyboard arrows. Anyone else experiencing this?
It looks like the problem has been addressed. However, now the scrollbar is so thin that it is very difficult to use.
Yes, we had several reports today that there are no scrollbars in the gradebook now. Which is basically what you’re seeing…they are so thin, people can’t see them.
one of our folks contacted Canvas Support and they said again, it’s a known issue.
Thank you. Good to know I'm not the only one struggling with this today.

That may be the funniest thing I've seen so far today.
"It's too wide!"
"we know"
"Now it's too narrow"
"we KNOW 😠"

Your summary of the whole ordeal is hilarious. Literally made me laugh out loud. 😂
Yes. The scroll bar is too thin! I can see it, but it's hard to grab.
