How to message other students.

In the inbox, when i press compose a new message and search up a name nothing comes up except for the teacher from that class and me. I wanted to become friends with the students but im not sure how to get their emails

When you go to your "Courses" >> "All Courses" screen in your Canvas account, is the course listed as published (look in the "Published" column)?  Also, I wonder if other students have been enrolled in the course yet?  If the course is published, are you able to log into the course and see a "People" course navigation link on the left-hand side of the page?  (Your instructor may not make the "People" page available to you and your classmates, by the way.)  This is one way you would be able to see if there are others enrolled in the course besides you and your instructor...if you have the "People" page available.

Also, normally I don't think you'd be able to see your classmates' e-mail addresses in Canvas.  You can message your classmates through the Canvas Inbox (similar to e-mail), but you don't really see their e-mail addresses.

Sorry if what i said before was unclear but what you said at the end was what i was trying to ask about. 'You can message your classmates through the Canvas Inbox' I want to know how. Also, all of the courses are published but there is no 'people' page on the left hand side. The reason i mentioned email adresses is because i was not sure if it was even possible to message other students in the inbox. When i search up their names nothing comes up. (i double checked the spelling). The only people that show up are me and the teacher of that subject. Hopefully this is just a mistake but i have been looking for quite a while

The link that I provided in my first response shows you how to send a message to others within your course(s).  Since I cannot see your course(s) in your school's Canvas environment (I only have access to my own Canvas environment), it's difficult to know if other students have been enrolled in the same course with you or not.  I would suggest that you reach out to your school's Online Learning / eLearning / Distance Education department.  They may be able to help you further with this.  If things look good on their end and they are not able to provide any assistance, you might try contact the Canvas Help Desk staff.

Dear @zoemkh,

Your school may have a policy that students may not send each other messages through Canvas Inbox. They may be concerned about student privacy. Unfortunately, there have been cases of students sending other students unwanted messages through Canvas Inbox. My guess is that your school has such a policy. 

Since your Inbox doesn't allow you to send messages to your classmates, check to see if you have Pronto in your Global Navigation Bar. Some schools have Pronto, which is another way to send messages.
