In Classic Quizzes, Essays Show the Word UNANSWERED in instructor view

I am doing a quiz in Classic Quizzes. Ordinarily all of my questions are objective, but I have two essay questions at the end. After I save and return, a big red UNANSWERED appears next to each of the essay questions and I cannot get rid of them. Moreover, when I go to preview those questions are outlined in red (in contrast to the objective questions which are outlined in black). I don't know if this is also the way students will view it when they take the quiz but this seems like a bug. Any way to address it? I have even deleted the essay questions and created them afresh, but it does the same thing once I save and return to edit.

I have not heard of or experienced this before.

When you say "preview those questions" are you preferring to: (a) the "Preview" option that is available to instructors while being an instructor or (b) while using the "View as Student" feature?

Does the same thing happen in a brand new quiz?

Do you have the ability to refer this directly to Canvas Support?
